Neolithic Revolution free essay sample

William Choi 9/5/10 Neolithic Revolution The Neolithic revolution is when agriculture started, also know as the Agriculture revolution. The men and women transitioned from being a nomadic hunting and gathering society to an agricultural community. This transition started to occur during 10,000 B. C. E. Before the Neolithic revolution, women were more matriarchal, during the Neolithic revolution, men and women had the same amount of work, after the Neolithic revolution, men were more patriarchal. Before the Neolithic revolution, there was no such thing as agriculture, the men hunted and the women gathered fruits and plants everyday. Even thought the men went hunting everyday, they only caught one deer to eat for the whole month. The women had more responsibility because they gathered food, took care of the kids, fixed food for the family, and cleaned the house. Before agriculture started, women had more responsibility, were in charge, and were more matriarchal. During the Neolithic revolution, agriculture was spreading through the ommunities and becoming more useful. The women were mostly used for child bearing and house work after they began the settlement Your social class was determined by your job you held most often. Possible jobs you could hold were a warrior an artisans or craftsmen. Other jobs were priests or a farmer. Depending on the community you belonged to priests and warriors were usually on top. While the artisans and farmers were in the lower class in society. Sometimes as when resources became scarce and limited warfare would increase among villages. During this period of war some men would gain the title of great warrior putting them at the top of their social class. As this is revolution continued the tools became more advanced and families became extended families more than just immediate families. Some of the tools invented to make life more simple/easy to live were metal tools such as the plow and hoe or metal weapons. Other inventions included pottery and weaving. These simple inventions that seem now so out of date made life for these people a lot easier. The plow and hoe made planting a crop a lot easier. The metal weapons would have made killing something a lot easier than it had been before and were also made to defend their villages or communities valuables from other villages. They also invented the first calendar system to keep track of planting and harvesting. Pottery was used to hold and store the villager valuables food and other things. And the goods you gathered and had a surplus of had to go some place so the establishment of trade of was introduced to mankind. The Neolithic Revolution changed the way humans lived and impact the way we live today. The use of agriculture allowed humans to develop permanent settlements, social classes, and new types of technology. Most of the basic technology invented may have been modified from generation to generation but is still in effect today. Some of these early groups settled in the along the river valleys of the Nile river, Tigris-Euphrates river, Yellow river, and Indus Rivers where the soil was fertile and made growing crops easier and the crops would flourish. This resulted in the rise of the great civilizations in Egypt, Mesopotamia, China, and India. Although these areas all had different geographical features they impacted the tools made and the lifestyles lived by the people in the different civilizations. These great societies are the foundations of what we have for today’s society our history comes from them and the things we do and know comes from them. They got the ball rolling for us we just have to take it and make what they gave us more advanced from generation to generation. That is what I can tell you about the Neolithic Revolution and its major outcomes and impacts and achievements.
